Founded in Vienna in 1947, AKG created some of the most recognised microphones in audio history, including the D12, C12 and C414, and has captured performances from Frank Sinatra to David Bowie. Its designs have set benchmarks for broadcast, studio and live sound for over 75 years, with AKG microphones still standard issue in studios and on stages worldwide.
AKG was founded by physicist Rudolf Görike and engineer Ernst Pless, two friends who started out building cinema equipment and loudspeakers in post war Vienna. Within a few years the pair had turned their attention to microphones, and breakthroughs like the world’s first high quality condenser microphone set AKG on a path to becoming one of the most respected names in acoustic engineering.
Now part of Harman Professional Solutions, AKG continues to build on that legacy with a full range of microphones, headphones and wireless systems for studio, stage and content creation. Its engineering carries the same commitment to clarity and detail that made the C414 and C12 industry standards, now paired with modern manufacturing and sustainability practices.
