Founded in 1959 in Grass Valley, California, Grass Valley has shaped the broadcast industry since it introduced the production switcher that came to define the category. Today its technology sits behind live production for the Super Bowl and major broadcasters worldwide, with a footprint spanning cameras, switchers, routing and cloud production tools.
The company was started by physicist Dr. Donald Hare as a research and consulting firm solving early video signal problems. Its switchers, routers and camera systems became broadcast industry staples through decades of ownership by Tektronix, Thomson and Belden, before Grass Valley became an independent company again under Black Dragon Capital in 2020.
Grass Valley’s product range covers the full production chain, from K-Frame production switchers and LDX camera systems through to routing, conversion and monitoring infrastructure. Its AMPP platform extends that hardware heritage into cloud and hybrid production, letting broadcasters run workflows on prem, in the cloud or both without compromising on quality.

K-Frame Switchers
The K-Frame range is Grass Valley’s flagship line of production switchers, built for the most demanding live productions including sports, television shows and multi studio operations. Configurations scale from compact 5RU frames up to nine full M/Es with up to 192 inputs and 96 outputs, with full raster 4K UHD processing, HDR support and SDI or IP connectivity across every model. It pairs with the Kayenne, Karrera and GV Korona control surfaces, keeping shows portable across the entire K-Frame family regardless of the frame or panel on the day.
LDX Camera Systems
LDX camera chains are built for broadcast studios, OB vans and remote productions that demand exceptional image quality. High dynamic range CMOS imaging captures detail in challenging lighting, while flexible triax or fibre transmission options make it straightforward to integrate LDX cameras into existing studio infrastructure, whether that is a fixed studio or a mobile production truck on the road.
