Broadtech strengthens nationwide telecommunications capability with the strategic acquisition of Transworks.

Broadtech, a Tū Ātea Group company, has acquired Transworks Ltd, strengthening its nationwide telecommunications capability while bringing exciting new ICT infrastructure, data centre, and industrial electrical services capability into the organisation.

With a proud legacy spanning almost 30 years, Transworks is recognised for its people-first culture, exemplary health and safety performance, and a consistent track record of delivering complex, mission-critical projects across Aotearoa.

Transworks’ highly respected organisational leadership, customer obsessed operating model and track record of delivery excellence has earned long-standing trust from major telecommunications providers, internet service companies, Data Centre and infrastructure partners nationwide.

The acquisition significantly expands Broadtech’s end-to-end delivery capability – from network, ICT infrastructure, and data centre design through to consenting, installation, commissioning, and final sign-off.

Transworks’ deep experience delivering nationwide audits, ISP deployments, DWDM, DC infrastructure and industrial electrical systems provide customers and strategic partners with a single, accountable partner offering scale, agility, and delivery certainty.

Transworks will operate as part of Broadtech from 1 March, with its people and culture remaining central to the business and Transworks Managing Director Paul Vandermeer will transition into a senior leadership role within Broadtech. Broadtech is committed to honouring the legacy that makes Transworks a special organisation while backing its team with the scale and opportunity to grow further.

“After 25 years of partnership, this acquisition is a natural evolution for Broadtech,” said Merv Taylor, CEO of Broadtech. “Transworks has an exceptional culture and proven delivery capability, and we’re hugely excited to strengthen the depth and resilience of what we deliver for our customers and strategic partners across Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands while creating meaningful, long-term pathways for Māori in the tech and telco sector.”

“We are excited about the opportunities for growth and development that this acquisition enables,” said Paul Vandermeer. “With strong cultural alignment and complimentary skillsets, the Transworks team are looking forward to working closely with the Broadtech team to enable significant synergies and growth and ultimately supporting the wider Tū Ātea commercial and non-commercial goals.”

The acquisition supports Broadtech’s and the broader Tu Atea Group kaupapa to grow Māori-led capability across critical digital and physical infrastructure, ensuring commercial performance and social impact advance together.
